Course description

HRM course aims to present the main notions, concepts and theories from the field, with special emphasis on the public sector (how does this theoretical framework operates within the public sector, what specificities exists in this field).

The present course intends to develop/create the necessary skills for a HRM practitioner through numerous case studies and exercises. The goal is for the students to be able to understand the interpersonal interplay at the workplace, to be capable to analyse and, based on the results of the analysis, to formulate personnel policies and HR documents in an effective and professional manner and to understand what HRM is doing for an organization.

The Organizational Development an Change Management (OD&CM) course aims to present the updated information regarding the field, covering the most common theories and theoretical models. It deals with the basic concepts of organizational change, OD, resistance to change and change management. In short, it teaches students how to identify the need to change in an organization (organizational diagnosis), how to see where that change is needed, then how to design a change plan that will minimize the level of resistance to change and, finally, how to integrate that change in an overall OD strategy.

Focus – interactive approach, students being encouraged to actively participate in classes, in order to develop the necessary abilities that will enable them to become both agents of change and managers of organizational changes.

Nonprofit organizations comprise the newest and fastest growing sector. They touch on every aspect of our lives. It is the mission of this course to familiarize you with the work of nonprofit organizations and with the challenges faced by this sector. This mission will be achieved by combining theory with practice to cover the following topics: NGO business model, governance & leadership, management (project management), fundraising (including grant writing), marketing, volunteer management, HR management, financial management, strategic planning, and ethics.

Learning objectives:

  • Acquire the basic concepts related to the third sector organizations and their activities;
  • Have a basic understanding of the organizational behavior of nonprofits;
  • Identify and understand the principal revenue resources and the various strategies for mobilizing and allocation financial resources;
  • Be familiar with the fundamentals of managing nonprofits, and with specific topics, currently relevant to nonprofits.

The main objective of this course is to reinforce the students’ individual capacity of decision-making by making them familiar with the various factors influencing the process and with the most relevant models of decision-making process. Also, the course aims to develop the analytical skills of the public administration students (future civil servants), making them capable of understanding the structure, the patterns and essential concepts of the decision-making processes.
